friday night camden and i had plans to go with camden’s father to ruth’s chris steak house for dinner in order to celebrate his dad’s birthday. camden had been working all day and called me about an hour and a half earlier than he was supposed to telling me he was coming home because his stomach was killing him.
camden has been complaining a lot of stomach pains lately and it was one of the reasons he gave up diet coke thinking that it might be a cause of his pain, but it didn’t really seem to make a difference. he also thought it was related to stress, however it still seemed to be getting worse and worse, stressed or not.
friday night when camden got home, he said it was the worst it had ever been and the pain was written all over his face. i asked him if he needed to go to the doctor and he said no, that we didn’t have time. he laid there for a little while longer before saying ok, i need to go to the e.r.
i knew then that camden must really be in pain. i mean sometimes it’s hard to tell because he will have a a common head cold and look like he is dying on the couch, literally looking like he is seconds away from his death bed. however when camden mentions the e.r. (which includes spending money) you know it must be serious.
once at the e.r. they gave him some morphine and got fluids running through him, he started to feel a lot better quite quickly. the doctors and nurses were very quick and nice, not your usual four hour emergency room adventure, although our trip was still a bit frustrating.
i don’t know if this happens to you but it seems like 50% of my e.r. run-ins the doctors can’t give you an exact explanation of what they think is wrong, at least without extensive testing like c-t scans and what not. it can be troubling when you know you are in pain yet they can’t seem to tell you why.
they did give camden a medication that has seemed to help so far so fingers crossed that was the issue and his stomach will get better.
seeing your loved ones in the e.r. even though it didn’t turn out to be life threatening, still gives you a new appreciation for who they are and what they bring to you in your life. i could never imagine actually losing camden, it would seem unbearable. it’s sad that we sometimes take the people we love for granted in our lives not realizing how fragile life is and that they could slip through our fingers at any moment. it also gave me a new appreciation for all those out there who have lost their loved ones so dear to their hearts. i can’t imagine how hard that would be and the strength they must have to carry on. i think they are amazing.
it seems camden is ok for now and he has already jumped back into his normal life doing the things he normally would. in fact, as we speak, he is on a twenty five mile bike ride which makes it seem even crazier that just two short days ago he was lying in a hospital bed. i’m so grateful for camden and all the things he does for us in our lives.
we love you camden!
I am happy to hear that Camden is okay as well, it usually takes someone getting ill before we appreciate them, I am working on that myself:)
Oh terrible! it's the not really knowing that is so hard. Glad for the improvement though.
ahh feel better!
Glad he is alright. I would consider checking out Crohn's disease and similar issues. I had this same issue and it turned out to be Crohns.
Wow! I am so glad Camden is okay!
I hope that is the extent of everything and he doesn't have any more ER trips.
Sending my get well wishes!

Glad he's ok! I hope it clears up soon! The ER is the most stressful place. At least your wait wasn't too long because I've had some five+ hour wait times before. Yuck. I hope he has a much better slash less stressful week! And you, too lady!
Weird. The same thing happened to my brother in law after he ate some pork. We rushed him to the ER for severe stomach pains, and it made him feel like he was also going to have a heart attack…Maybe it was the meat? My brother in law isn't overweight either, he looks healthy and is slim, but there may have been something in the meat that can trigger an episode like this, who knows. Unless Camden doesn't eat meat at all, then it is still up in the air as to what it might be…
