babymoon part two – the beach

oh how we love the beach … we spent every morning and every evening taking long walks here and every afternoon soaking up the sun, drinking water with lemon, and eating caprese sandwiches here. camden even took a few brave swims into the deep chilly ocean. i, on the other hand, decided to watch from underneath our beach umbrella where it was nice and toasty. seriously though, we are both missing this like crazy!

babymoon part one – out and about town

it’s been quiet around here, i know. we are all alive and well, we’ve just been in laguna beach for the last week having a babymoon of sorts. this was the perfect pick seeing as we went on our honeymoon there. laguna feels like a home away from home … like it’s a small bit of the planet that belongs to just us. it was just what we both needed to clear our heads and bring ourselves back to feeling a little more like us. below are photos from our trip when we found ourselves strolling out and about town.

on our first full day the air was just slightly too chilly to spend lounging on the beach, so we decided to drive to balboa island and spend the day exploring there instead. on the way (and slightly lost) we took a wrong turn and almost literally bumped into this theater. camden and i had both been so excited to see the grand budapest hotel since we first heard it was coming out and so it felt like fate when we saw the next show was starting in ten minutes. we changed our plans slightly and watched this movie in the theater it was meant to be seen in.

mornings in laguna are my absolute favorite and every morning we ate at our very favorite restaurant, zinc. a few times we even stopped there for lunch as well. this sandwich, chili, and salad combo was nothing short of amazing.

we stayed at the hotel laguna located right in the center of town and smack dab on the beach. for what we wanted and needed, we couldn’t have asked for anything more. you could see and hear the ocean from our window which i’m missing like crazy right now.

i’m really excited to finally be able to share with you a little project i have been working on. over the summer, i had the privilege of designing the bag shown above for the wonderful, tukula, a company i have loved working with in the past and is no stranger to chalk white arrow. i am thrilled with the way this bag turned out. it’s the perfect mixture of something that has a little extra structure without loosing that bohemian feel tukula does so well. i have mine packed and ready for our beach vacation coming up later this week.

in case you need a bit of a refresher, tukula is an accessories line based out of uganda, giving young women the opportunity of having work with fair wages, medical care, and access to a savings program. every accessory purchased directly helps these women. you can check out their website by clicking here, and order this bag by clicking here.

thanks to tukula, one of you will get the chance to win one of these chalk white arrow bags. all you have to do is:

follow tukula either on twitter or facebook
make sure you follow this blog
then come back here and leave a comment under this post letting us know you did.

the winner will be picked one week from today … good luck to you all and a big thanks to tukula!

pregnancy craving # two – sweet and spicy quesadilla

March 21, 2014

ok, i promise this is good. it sounds kind of strange … maybe even bizarre, but i swear it to be amazing. this recipe coincidentally has apricot jam incorporated as well, i guess i have a thing for apricots? … which would be strange knowing as a kid i absolutely hated them. however, i recall, it was mostly a texture thing. anyhow, i didn’t have much luck getting camden to try this sweet and spicy quesadilla concoction, mostly because of the jalapeños … one thing you must know about camden here and now is he absolutely hates anything spicy, and anything from the sea for that matter which often puts me in a bit of a pickle since i absolutely love both of these things … and so, since i’m missing my second opinion here, i guess you’ll just have to take my word for it 😉

you’ll need:
one tortilla
one tablespoon of apricot jam
a handful of shredded turkey
1/8 – 1/4 cup of shredded medium cheddar cheese
about 1/4 cup of chopped jalapeños

spread the apricot jam over the tortilla and place in a heated medium skillet. add the cheese, shredded turkey, and jalapeños. fold the tortilla in half and cook until all the cheese has melted. enjoy.
