yesterday kramer had his very first teeth cleaning. ok ok, i know how this might sound … having your pet’s teeth actually professionally cleaned … sounds kind of doltish really …  at least it did to me before i found out all the negative consequences in not having it done a few months ago. if you really think about it however, it kind of makes sense, especially if you want to help keep your pet around for as long as possible. it was quite the dramatic day for kramer seeing as he also had to have two vaccines, blood and heart warm tests, in addition to going under anesthesia in order for the doctor to be able to clean his teeth. he was so out of it and goofy when we picked him up yesterday, he came home, plopped himself down on a comfy spot, and slept for the rest of the night. besides being a little sore from the vaccines, he is getting back to his regular self today, with a sparkling smile and all. –p.s. the little bandage on his leg is from the blood test and iv’s.

I love all animals but i have always been partial to the bigger dog breeds as I grew up on a farm and a little dog meant possible coyote abduction…. anyways! Your little guy is possible the cutest and you can just tell he is a gentle soul. I love your Kramer photos!

We have Kramer on a health plan through the Pet Smart vet. Basically we pay like $35 a month and then all doctor visits, vaccines, yearly check ups, and teeth cleanings are completely free. Kramers last visit would have cost us over $500 otherwise. They always do a good job, I'd totally recommend them 🙂

i was going to ask too! good to know. we've been looking into that health plan as well. of course there's all the usual (and smart!) reasons to have it…but also, we've been noticing it might be more of a necessity to us. our frenchie is very sensitive and always seems to be catching colds…and then giving them to our beagle. yuck!

Totally do it … It's has been completely worth it for us so far. We've only had it for a few months and it has more than paid for itself already. It seems that pet healthcare can be almost just as expensive as people healthcare … It's a crazy world we live in:)

Hope all is well with you, Bridget:)

Poor Kramer! I get Olive's teeth cleaned about once a year (actually I started caring about getting her teeth cleaned when I realized how negatively it affected the husband and I by skipping for a few years!). So I don't think it's silly at all. Puppies are family members. However, have you ever looked into anesthesia free cleaning? I live in Southern California and there's this really awesome woman who does it, by swaddling the dog like a baby and then getting down on the floor with them to brush and remove plaque and tarter buildup. She even made me a break down of her current dental status.

I just had a friend's dog pass while being under anesthesia last month so I try to let as many people know as I can. Going under is always a huge risk, for people and animals.
