i mentioned here a bit ago that i’ve had to give up all that is dairy for sweet baby jude because it seemed to be bugging his stomach after i ate it. honestly, this has been harder than i thought it would be … especially certain nights when you turn on a movie and want to pair it with a tub of ice cream or those brownies your mother-in-law sends you home with which are staring you smack dab in the face. saturday, i finally made a trip down to whole foods to pick out a few dairy free, coconut and soy based ice creams to try out. i did some research and had a few people tell me that the brand so delicious was the way to go and compared closest to real ice cream in all factors; taste, appearance, and texture. i picked out four different flavors; cherry amaretto, vanilla, mocha almond fudge, and turtle trails. i was pleasantly surprised by all of them but definitely favored the turtle trails and surprisingly the vanilla because i felt it tasted similar to rice pudding. i’m alway looking for more dairy free options so if you have any favorites or tips send them my way!

One simple thing I do is freeze some bananas (peeled and chopped alreayd!) and then blend them in a food processor with whatever flavours I want! I like it with maple syrup and vanilla seeds, or also almond butter and cacao! You can then have it straight or put it back in the freezer for 20 min to harden it up a bit! So yummy!

you should get this cookbook called Veganomicon. it's huge and everything I've ever made from it has been absolutely delicious!
Try ice cream by CoconutBliss! I have tried my fair share of dairy-free ice creams due to illness / diet changes, and theirs is THE best, by far. Added plus: no sugar.
Hello! Love your blog! I found your sisters blog! I shall be following you both! 🙂 happy ice cream eating!
I'm always looking for a great different alternative to ice cream. I'm going to be trying this brand out. Thank you.
Juli
Thanks for sharing, I'll have to check some of these out!

the coconut bliss brand ice creams are heavenly and totally dairy free!
I commented on your IG post, but try Artic Zone. It's a ice cream substitute that's dairy free, gluten free and only 34 calories per serving, so also guilt free!
i second the coconut bliss recommendation. my husband and i both love dairy and cheese but we've switched to coconut bliss because it's just THAT good! we love the dark chocolate one in particular and the salted caramel chocolate one is a very close second when we want to get just a little more decadent.
Any and every flavor made by Coconut Bliss, but especially this flavor:

Whole Foods carries this brand, and I can also find it at my local co-op and health food store. I HIGHLY recommend it. It's the closest to actual ice cream I've found, even more so than So Delicious.
The So Delicious chocolate covered coconut popsicles are SOOOO good. The ones rolled in almonds are my fav
Yum! I try to cut out as much dairy as I can since it tends to upset my stomach late at night, but I absolutely love ice cream, so it's a tough battle. I'm definitely going to try these out!

These photos are so delicious. Now I want ice cream!
I agree with the coconut bliss commentors– their coconut popsicles are also creamy and soooo good. For me, the closest to real cow's milk ice cream, in terms of creaminess, is coconut milk ice cream.
Another thing I do that maybe you've already tried is to slice bananas (I do it in coins but you could just do it in halves), freeze them, dip the frozen slices in melted dark choc chips (I usually add a scant tsp of coconut oil to this, but it's not essential), re-freeze, and then eat with peanut butter dolloped on top. Honestly that might be my favorite dessert of all time.
I run a vegan food blog! http://www.deerlybelovedbakery.blogspot.com
I have lots of yummy vegan treats on there!
