i have been painting all sorts of chalkboard walls over here lately. it was totally on a whim too. one of those, “i think that wall would look better as a chalkboard”, because i’m sure you have those all the time. i did it all by myself, aren’t you proud? camden was but mostly because i didn’t have to make him help, due to the fact that he was at work and all. anyway, i am really loving the contrast between the black of the board and the crisp white of the wall to the side. it really makes a statement doesn’t it? plus i figure we’ll stop forgetting groceries on account that it makes a killer “what i need at the store” wall.
how cool. i want one.

I've talked and talked about a chalkboard wall, but my husband doesn't like the idea too much (why does he care anyway huh) and we're renting sooooooo yeah. But we do have a little chalkboard on the kitchen wall and I put all my groceries that I run out of on it or little notes to each other when our schedules conflict 🙂
I love this, I am definitely going to paint a chalkboard wall someday!

It does create a bit of chalky mess, the amount really determines on how much you're drawing and erasing on it. However, I don't find it to be to much of a deterrent, at least for us mainly because it is so easy to clean up. A quick wipe with a damp cloth really gets it quite nicely, or even hitting the area with the vacuum once a week works pretty well. As long as the chalkboard wall is over an easily wipeable surface it seems to be fine, I don't know how well it would do over a carpeted area? but hardwood or tile (and so on) works fine in my opinion! Hope this helps and let me know if you try it.

Can I just tell you that you are my biggest home inspiration? No matter where you move I feel like you have the prettiest apartment in existence. You even made me feel like I should be more open to carpeted apartments because of your creative use of rugs. Does your landlord mind that you paint the wall black or that you install different light fixtures?
