camden has been wanting us to do one hike in particular all summer so it was no surprise to me when he last week started “casually” mentioning the dog lake hike as a must do asap. both days he wanted to go were iffy as far as rain but last tuesday gave in i did as the three of us trekked up the mountain for a six mile round trip hike (p.s. anything over two miles seems like an extremely long hike in my opinion). because of all the rain we had just had for the few days prior and the current overcast sky, it actually got cold as we climbed in elevation and i needed a jacket for the very first time this summer. it took us all about two hours to get to the top and i was once again shocked and in awe of how much beauty surrounds us right outside our door and how lucky i am to live so close to so much comeliness and peace. on the way back down it started to get dark and rainy and we had to pull out our flashlights to see the trail in front of us. however, instead of turning sour about the whole thing, we made it into a little adventure and arrived safe and happy down the mountain a few hours later. i’m grateful for camden dragging me on this hike with him … sometimes i forget how nice it is to get away, put all our silly cares behind us, and have a mini family adventure.

Lovely photos! When people ask me if I want to go on hikes, I always react like it's one of the worst things I could possibly do but I always end up really enjoying myself when I'm there!

Thanks Bekka! I know me too! I can never figure out why people are wanting to hike as an extra activity but once I go It seems I always have a blast:)

I totally know what you mean … sometimes looking back at photos I have taken of certain things I didn't necessarily feel were the most fun at the time give me a new memory and appreciation if even only for the photo itself … if that makes any sense 🙂

      Thanks Rosie!

so pretty. i love forests that colder the higher you go. i went to costa rica in summer a few years back and it was just like that. you feel so much more into nature that way.

It's so true. The higher you climb it seems as though the greens and blues get that much more intense … So jealous you went to Costa Rica by the way … sounds like so much fun!

      Thanks Yelle!!

these pictures are stunning! I have to put this hike on my to do list. Hikes after rain are always a lot better I think. No crazy heat dragging you down and everything is just so green like in these gorgeous pictures. Glad you had such a good time!

Beautiful photos – exploring the state parks in SC has become my new hobby. When I'm sat on the couch hiking is a terrible idea but once I'm there it's a different story and I need to remember that – there's so much beauty all around if we just go and explore it.

beautiful photographs (as always). I have a love/hate relationship with hiking: one the one hand it's great to get out and get all that fresh air and appreciate the beauty that surrounds us. on the other hand, I hate being sweaty and hot. anyway sounds like a wonderful day!!

Exactly … the hot sweaty dirty part is not the best … but when the weather is cool and your surroundings are beautiful in can be quite lovely:) Thanks Fenn … You're the best!!
