a mini “staycation”

this weekend we treated ourselves to a mini “staycation”… a pretend vacation spent at home. i remember reading about the idea in a kinfolk magazine a few months back. camden and i both felt like we needed some relaxing time away, but right after christmas, our wallets and schedules wouldn’t really allow for it. so we stayed home and played vacation in hopes of reaping all the benefits of an actual one. for the most part it worked. the biggest trick for us, was trying to keep ourselves from doing regular things we do at home as part of our regular day to day routine. we tried to do things we may do on vacation or try things we haven’t tried before at home. we ate fresh donuts in bed, watched some like it hot – a movie i have only seen on vacation, ate at a yummy little pizza joint we had both wanted to try but had never gotten around to, and really, overall, just relaxed. it actually kind of did the trick and this “staycation” idea is something we want to both incorporate more often into our lives. have you ever tried a “staycation”? if so, what worked for you?

We have staycations ALL the time!! We will just get some take out and turn on the apple tv and hibernate indoors for the weekend! It's our favorite thing to do! Because even a vacation takes a little work!!! Staycations are easy and cheap!!!

    Great photos as always!!

Hmmm.. Staycation. Definitely sounds like something I wouldn't mind taking part in. And those doughnuts are only making me even more hungrier than what I am as of now.

Lovely photographs, and a lovely post altogether!

this sounds like the greatest idea. when did we start thinking that we have to go somewhere to relax and unwind? so glad your cute little family got some down time!

my boyfriend and i have had our share of staycations and we've learned to love them too. i have health issues that make it really difficult to plan things in advance or to travel very far, and several trips over the last few years have fallen through at the last minute, but it's amazing how perspective and attitude can make staying home an equally enjoyable experience. it's all about the company anyway, right? 🙂

Love this idea! As someone who constantly needs to break routine, this is something nice and small enough while I'm saving for big adventures 🙂 thanks for sharing!

Well right now I could really really use a vacation. I guess I'm going to need to try doing a stay-cation to see if that helps! Thanks for the idea! Those donuts look to die for!
